More about the release

“Do you think it’s really worth all that trouble to delete my channel just so I can get back to the enjoyment of making videos?!? Comment down below. You have 2 days to comment - you have until 2 days from today to comment.”

Extreme Animals’ “Should I Delete My Channel?” dares to ask what happens when we “face the mask” and delete the channel. From their humble beginnings as Paper Rad’s house band, Extreme Animals (Jacob Ciocci and David Wightman) have been making frenetic, blazing work for over 20 years, creating culture-critiquing narratives out of original and found materials. Their new VHS cassingle/double feature consists of two brand new songs and 15 minutes of video meditating on the history of moving image formats and their impact on our perception of the past, present, and future.

Building on 2023’s “Musical Television”, SIDMC plays with the ideas of how video and technology have developed since the band’s inception. TikTok banners are collaged with VHS trailers in some of the collective’s most abrasive edits to date. Long-time fans will be glad to see Extreme Animals themes and archetypes are reprised and developed in this work: there are trolls, the Green Hand, and lots of “Guitar Center punk” aesthetics.

At the heart of the tape are two contrasting new “musical stories”. First up is “Troll Update”, a colorful Rainbow Rock tune that harkens back to the group’s early work on “Dare I Say Troll”. The second video (or, “Your Feature Presentation”), “Fall Back”, is a slower burn, more cinematic with darker, autumnal themes. The resulting polarity ultimately creates a sort of balance within the chaos.

SIDMC was professionally transferred/mastered on specially requested T15 VHS cassettes from our manufacturer. These cassettes are protected in upcycled D*sney vinyl white “Stay Puft” clamshell cases, sealed in archival transparent 12 gauge .3mm plastic protective collector’s boxes. This is not just a release, it’s a “piece”… Wait, it’s not just a “piece”, it’s an artifact that carries a history, an aura… spirits, if you will. So please do consider that before making your purchase. Place it in your library next to your copy of the tape from “The Ring”, or maybe Obayashi’s “House”. This is a tape for both collectors and watchers alike but is one of Extreme Animals' more limited releases — only 50 copies of the work have been produced. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
